Born in Hsinchu County, Liu Xing-chin is a celebrated cartoonist who is generally considered a national Hakka treasure in Taiwan. With a humorous style in his most widely known cartoon characters “Great Auntie (大嬸婆)” and “Brother A-san (阿三哥),” Liu cleverly introduced the customs and humanities of Hakkas to people all over Taiwan. Liu is not only a master of comics, a prolific inventor, an educator who developed many creative teaching materials, but also a sower of Hakka culture.
The exhibition is divided into five parts, including the painting section displaying Liu’s 44 ink paintings; the comic art sections exhibiting a selection of the master’s original comic artwork from 1968 to 1969; the bronze sculpture section presenting Liu’s ten art pieces of vividness and lifelikeness; the invention section showcasing a number of patented devices designed by the artist; and the interactive section enabling visitors to take pictures of Liu’s creations with the augmented reality technology.
