The Three-on-Three Hakka-Indigenous Mixed Youth Basketball Game

Looking back on the history of Taiwan, people can find that many Hakka settlements border indigenous areas. The interaction between the two ethnic groups sometimes unavoidably leads to misunderstanding, prejudice, friction, or even conflicts. Aiming to implement racial equity, the Hakka Affairs Council (HAC) actively promotes policies on ethnic mainstreaming in collaboration with different departments.

Noticing that there are many regions in which the two ethnic groups—Hakka and indigenous—live together on Taiwan Romantic Route 3, Hakka Affairs Council Minister Yiong Con-ziin launched the first-ever three-on-three Hakka-indigenous mixed youth basketball game for young people from different ethnic backgrounds to enhance mutual understanding. Parents and friends of the participants from the two ethnic groups could also raise the “we-group” consciousness and create an opportunity for interracial exchanges.
