Chief Secretary Wu remarked that the Public Childcare Center will be located on the second floor of the Guandong Market General Building. With the traditional market on 1F, a library on 3F, the Hakka Center on 4F, and the Recreation Center on 5F, the entire complex offers a variety of functions so that residents can not only buy Hakka delicacies, but also read Hakka books at the library and join Hakka cultural activities, truly making Hakka culture a part of everyday life.
This landmark public childcare center, the largest and first facility in Hsinchu City that combines Hakka culture with temporary childcare, will officially open for business in early 2027, boosting the childcare service capacity in eastern Hsinchu. Once completed, it will be able to accommodate 50 infants and toddlers aged 0 to 2, and provide temporary childcare services for 10 children per day, effectively alleviating the shortage of childcare sites that causes difficulties for parents in Guandong District.
Jinshanmian, or “gimˋ sanˋ mienˇ”, stands out as a traditional Hakka settlement in Hsinchu City. Completed in 2006, the Guandong Market General Building never came into full use as buying patterns shifted away from traditional markets. HAC granted a subsidy of NT$37.8 million in 2019 to turn the 3F idle space into the Hsinchu City Library Guandong Branch and upgrade the 4F Hakka Center into a bright, open public service site. In 2024, the idle second floor received further funding to build a childcare center that offers temporary care services. HAC’s total investment of NT$110 million has finally enabled the entire complex to offer comprehensive services in line with the policy goal of “everyday exchanges by all ages” in Hakka village everyday exchange centers promoted by HAC.
