Minister Gu said that over 100 educators have received recognition as excellent promoters of Hakka education from HAC between 2018 and 2024. In other words, at least that number of people possess professional expertise to pass down the Hakka. The goal is that everyone can learn from each other and grow together as "teachers of teachers", expanding our personal influence by inviting more teachers to join the effort. In addition to schools, HAC will actively engage in promotion of Hakka transmission among families and society in the future.
13 schools and 16 educators received awards in 2024, including teachers and students from kindergartens, elementary schools, and junior high schools of central, south, and east neighborhoods in Taipei. Teachers who have endeavored to pass down the Hakka for decades are especially worth distinction—their dedication to the educational mission of cultural legacy calls for admiration.
In addition to the Award Ceremony, the Hakka Affairs Council also held a Hakka Education Forum, inviting experts, scholars, and Hakka teachers to share their experiences and achievements, then jointly discuss the challenges and strategies for Hakka teaching. The Forum focused on raising awareness and revitalizing the Hakka in schools, comprising two themed speeches and five keynote lectures. Distinguished guests Professor Chun Chen-cheng of the Graduate Institute of Teaching Chinese as a Second/Foreign Language, National Kaohsiung Normal University and Professor Chen Ren-fu of the Department of Early Childhood Education, National Pingtung University shared their views on Hakka revitalization via bilingual education, Hakka education for Taiwanese infants and children based on the Welsh experience, and other topics. It is hoped that the exchanges spark new ideas and inspiration among all attendants, motivating everyone to endeavor for a stronger Hakka and culture together.
