This is the first time that the Hakka Affairs Council (HAC) has participated in the exhibition. HAC Minister Gu Show-faye said that in addition to publishing works by Hakka writers to help people understand Taiwan's Hakka culture, lifestyle, and history, HAC also assists county and city governments and township offices home to Hakka villages to upgrade library facilities and collections. It also promotes collaboration between storyteller moms and libraries so se-ngìn-è ("children" in Hakka) can listen to stories in Hakka and learn the language and culture.
This year, HAC and its affiliated institutions jointly assembled a selection of 430 books for the public to choose from, including Lee Chiao Complete Works, which compiles the masterpieces of Lee Chiao, a giant of contemporary Hakka literature; The Hakka Cookbook: Distribution of Chinese Soul Food around the World and The Hakka Cookbook: Chinese Soul Food from around the World, which document the food culture of Hakka people through the heritage of Hakka cuisine; and True Art of 1960s' Taiwan: Photography by An-ming Liu, Luminous Landscapes: 60 Years of photographs by Cai Ye, and Andante: Kuo-Lung Liang, that retell Hakka stories from a profound perspective and pass on Hakka cultural memory across generations through the media of literature, food, and professional photography.
The Hakka Pavilion's "Reading Salon" is an event that combines literature with other disciplines, where experts across fields introduce books to readers; "Hakka Reading Time" offers guided reading to help visitors explore Hakka literary styles; "Hakka Children's Books" is a series of activities by the internationally renowned Taiwanese children's theater troupe Puppet Beings Theater, who inspired by Hakka children's picture books, guide children in reading picture books and making puppets by hand to create beautiful memories between parents and children; "New Book Salon" shares and looks closely at the remarkable accomplishments of Hakka women through the Hakka women encyclopedia; and "Hakka Handicrafts" takes readers into the world of handicrafts through books so they experience the beauty of Hakka craftsmanship. The event also combined technology with cultural interactive experiences, allowing visitors to have a blast while reading and speaking Hakka, getting a taste of the unique literary charm of Hakka culture.
