The Highway Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) joined forces with the Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center (THCDC), Hakka Affairs Council (HAC) to organize the touring exhibition OPEN Highway—hag` suiˇ iun zon`, opening officially from January 7 in the Taitung Art and Culture Center! THCDC Director Ho Chin-liang invited everyone to visit the Taiwan Hakka Museum in Tongluo, Miaoli as the Tung Blossom Festival takes place in April, once the exhibition in Taitung is over.

The show presents the stories of Hakka individuals who forged a safe and reliable future for Provincial Highway 9 through professionalism and dedication: father and daughter Liu I-tung and Liu Mei-ling (who moved to Guanshan, Taitung from Dongshi, Taichung) and Chiu Kun-pao (who moved to Chishang, Taitung from Tongxiao, Miaoli).

Eastern Taiwan abounds with touching accounts of unsung heroes. The exhibition shines light on the migration paths of Taiwanese Hakka populations. Tea processing techniques have been passed down through generations of the Wen family. People are treated to the unique fragrance of Taitung's red oolong thanks to their fusion of traditional tea culture and modern marketing. Moreover, the exhibition recounts the placemaking projects of Qing Feng Pastry Shop, Dongbanxiang Traditional Rice Workshop, and other businesses. These Hakka families all possess invaluable expertise that they turned into one-of-a-kind Hakka culture and industries in Taitung.
