
HAC took relevant professionals to observe and discuss classes, as well as perform exchanges in 4 schools located in Aberystwyth, Wales from October 18 to 19, 2023, UK time. Ysgol Gymunedol Plascrug Community School, visited on October 18, is a primary school and kindergarten using Welsh as primary language and English as secondary one, offering different courses designed to encourage speaking of Welsh. In terms of secondary education, they visited Ysgol Gyfun Gymunedol Penweddig, where 80% of subjects are taught in Welsh, and Ygsol Penglais School, where English serves as the primary language and Welsh as the secondary one.

Prifysgol Aberystwyth University, visited on October 19, is an institution renowned for its research of Welsh and Celtic languages. Dr. Rhodri Llwyd Morgan, representative for the exchange on that day, offered background information on the Welsh language and explained the current status and study outlook for Welsh learning. Meanwhile, HAC briefly spoke about the current implementation status and future prospects for Hakka learning, while Professor Chun Chen-cheng elaborated on the current status, opportunities, and challenges for minority language learning in Taiwan from an academic perspective.

HAC stated that every effort by Taiwanese outstanding workers, experts, and public servants engaged in promotion of Hakka language learning is essential for Hakka language revitalization. Certainly, much was learned from the language learning and promotion work shared by the host Welsh schools at different educational levels. It is hoped that these valuable lessons can be applied back in Taiwan to push forward Hakka language learning.
