Falabidbog, Common Vision for Provincial Highway 3 and Arts Festival Celebration of Hakka Identity for People of All Ethnicities

The 2nd Romantic Route 3 Arts Festival organized by the Hakka Affairs Council (HAC) will run from June 24 and August 27 in the Provincial Highway 3. This art event encompasses five counties and cities: Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, and Taichung, amounting to 150 kilometers. Planning is already in the final stage, with only some fine-tuning left.

HAC Minister Yiong Con-ziin said that ever since the 1st Romantic Route 3 Arts Festival was held in 2019, Hakka culture and aesthetics have seen a flourishing, gaining visibility both at home and abroad and shining the limelight on the unique beauty of Taiwanese Hakka culture. One could say that the Romantic Route 3 Arts Festival is a constant dialogue, traveling back in time through the history of the Hakka people in Taiwan. However, for this edition of the festival, art pieces are not the sole focus, but arts curating, design, and cross-domain cultural experience serve as the three major focuses. Also unprecedentedly, this year's event will feature co-creation by dozens of international and local teams that echoes this year's theme, "Falabidbog", through team composition, creative aspects, and works with multicultural perspectives.

In the Hakka, "Falabidbog" means "colorful and dazzling". A new interpretation and meaning of the term is provided by showcasing the wealth and diversity of facets and ideas of the quiet, reserved Hakka villages alongside Provincial Highway 3 and the variety of ethnic groups that have inhabited them across the ages. This is the backbone of this year's Romantic Route 3 Arts Festival in the hopes of stimulating further discussion and creative thought on the diversity of Hakka culture.

Inspired on the concept of "Falabidbog", the 2nd Romantic Route 3 Arts Festival offers a yet new perspective to redefine what the general public originally thought of Hakka culture via a three-pronged approach centered on art, design, and food. Starting today, there will be a thrilling series of "warm-up" activities for the festival.
