Mandarin, Hakka and Taiwanese Multilingual New Year's Eve Countdown Parties Marvelous Display of Cultural Pluralism Across Taiwan

Taiwan's government enacted the Development of National Languages Act and has devoted strong efforts to implement its ethnic mainstreaming policy in recent years. This, in turn, has enabled all inhabitants of the island nation to better understand the different peoples and cultures that go unperceived in our day-to-day, helping Taiwan progress towards authentic cultural pluralism. Echoing the policies to promote cultural pluralism, city and county governments across Taiwan eagerly arranged numbers in different languages for their New Year's Eve countdown parties, each region choosing languages and hosts accordingly based on their respective demographics, so that no one would feel left out on the last moments of 2022.

Songstress Julia Peng—multiple Golden Melody Awards winner—opened the 2023 Taipei New Year's Eve Countdown Party and didn't fail to perform songs from her recently released Hakka album Living Room Dreaming, the first such attempt in her career. After enthralling listeners with the catchy tunes of new Hakka music, Peng gave the stage to television presenter Lulu (Lulu Huang Lu Zi Yin)—Golden Bell Awards winner, who hosted the party alongside Taiwanese indigenous Internet celebrities Drangadrang and Arase. Meanwhile, the 2023 Hsinchu New Year's Eve Party started with performances by Una Ho, Jeremy Huang, and Yu-fang Liu—all winners of the 2022 Hsinchu Hakka Melody Awards. Jason Chung, a beloved Hakka figure, then took over as host. In Nantou's 2023 New Year's Eve Party—which also served as a charity fundraiser, Hakka Melody Awards winner Gina Yang and T-pop idol Ric Jan delighted the audience as they welcomed the new year in the mountains. The 2023 New Year's Eve Party in Pingtung featured Golden Melody Awards winner Angel Chu, television presenter Emerson Tsai, and Hakka beauty Cheng Ming-chu, who treated viewers to a thrilling evening.
