The veteran actor was given the HAC certificate and presidential citation in recognition of his outstanding achievements in Taiwan’s film and television industry as well as his selfless devotion to Hakka culture and language.
Like Minister Yiong himself, Tang was also a Hakka from Miaoli. The Minister said that his mother was a faithful fan of Tang, adding that it was his mother’s precious memory that Tang had always visited her every Lunar New Year to offer greetings. Yiong mentioned that he and Tang got to know each other as they were involved in the preparatory work before the establishment of Hakka TV Station 20 years ago.
Born in Miaoli’s Nanzhuang Township in 1952, Tang Chuan, whose real name is Tseng Chun-sung (曾均崧), entered the entertainment industry after he completed the actor training program when he was young. Tang bagged two Golden Bell Awards, Taiwan’s highest award for film and television, winning the mini-series/movie supporting actor award for "Mystery Train (神祕列車)" in 2008, and the mini-series/movie best actor award for "Living from the Sea (討海人)" in 2010. In 2021, he received the Golden Bell nomination for the best leading actor in the Hakka TV movie “The Era Where I Live (窩卡).”
Tang’s actively promoting the development of Taiwan’s Hakka language and culture earns him an Individual Recognition for Outstanding Contribution to Promoting Local Language Award in 2022.
