Known as the "Mini-Olympics of the Dawu Mountain", the Liugdui Hakka Games is the most unique Hakka tradition in southern Taiwan and the only Hakka sports event in the country.

At the Feb. 8 press conference, Deputy Minister Chung Kung-chao (鍾孔炤) of the Hakka Affairs Council (HAC) said this year’s Games, with Liugdui’s Hakka settlements entering their 301st year, is of historical significance as it is hosted by its first edition organizer—Zhutian Township.

Apart from sports such as basketball, table tennis, and baseball that are popular among the public, there will be new sports including kidsbiking, breaking, and sport climbing, the Deputy Minister said.

Chung invited the general public to visit the Liugdui Hakka settlements to experience the Hakka tradition mixed with innovation as well as vitality and excitement at the Liugdui Games.

"Liugdui (六堆)" is a collective appellation for the Hakka settlements in Kaohsiung and Pingtung, which are made up of 12 townships/districts. The Games has been hosted by these township/district offices on a rotational basis since 1948, and this year’s edition of the Games is organized by Pingtung’s Zhutian Township office.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, visitors shall follow the government’s guidance for attending live events by adopting prevention measures such as wearing masks and keeping social distance as well as monitoring body temperature at the entrance and using the hand sanitizer before entering the arena.
