The call for proposals for the program this year is now open until March 4. The eligible applicants include domestic public and private colleges and universities, academic institutions, and non-governmental organizations.
The program has been adjusted to target the youth since this year, encouraging those who are interested to form a team to submit their proposal. The number of the team members shall be no more than five, at least three of whom can speak the Hakka, or preferably of New-Southbound-country origin. It is expected to increase youth participation in foreign affairs and bring about frequent exchanges between Taiwan and the New Southbound countries.
There are two categories in the program: interschool collaboration and non-governmental exchanges. The former pays attention to mutual efforts between Taiwan’s legitimate schools and their counterparts from the New Southbound countries to promote Hakka culture; the latter is aimed at interaction between Taiwan’s legally established NGOs and their partners from aforementioned countries through paying visits to local Hakka settlements or holding international forums on Hakka revitalization and innovation.
Concerning potential development of the bilateral partnership and the increasing visibility of the Taiwanese Hakka community, a proposal that meets the program’s criteria is highly welcome, be it one-year or multi-year.
Considering the rapidly evolving situation around COVID-19 overseas, the applicants should have an alternative plan in response to the pandemic, for example, converting in-person events to virtual ones.
