The 2019 UN Climate Change Conference (COP25) took
place from Dec. 2 to 13 in Madrid. About 20 thousand representatives from
around the world gathered together to thoroughly discuss the issues of global
warming, climate change, and environmental protection.
President Lee Wang-tang (黎萬棠) of the Association of Hakka of
Taiwan in Spain stated that Liu Der-li (劉德立), representative of the Taipei
Economic and Cultural Office in Spain, sought every chance to help Taiwan attend
this conference.
Liu even led his team to publicize Taiwan by launching
a publicity campaign that saw subway cars and buses in Madrid painted with the
slogan “Combating Climate Change, Taiwan Can Help” and decorated with Tung
flower patterns from Hakka culture, Lee added.
President Lee remarked that these painted vehicles
transported Taiwan’s determination to make a positive contribution to climate
change across the capital city of Spain, noting that the campaign aimed at
making Taiwan’s voices heard was fully supported by local Hakka expatriates,
who were really excited and touched when they saw Taiwan-themed cars running in
Madrid.
