The Brazil Hakka Tsung Tsin Association (BHTTA, 巴西客屬崇正總會) organized a
one-day trip to Salto — a city that is an hour’s drive away from São Paulo — on July 9
to celebrate Mother’s Day and Brazil’s June Festivals (Festas Juninas). More
than 230 members participated in the annual event, including BHTTA President
Wen Zheng-ren (溫政仁), BHTTA Secretary-General
Jorge Yang (楊國斌), and Taiwanese
Chambers of Commerce in Brazil President Hui Yi-de (惠翊德).
The day trippers first went to see the captivating waterfall of Tietê
River, which is the main waterway of Salto. They then followed some stairs to a
suspension bridge, and admired the spectacular scenery along the river. The
lavish forests on both river banks are home to flourishing biodiversity and
wildlife.
The participants also visited Parque de Lavras, a recreation park famous
for the tallest statue of the Virgin Mary in São Paulo State. Ascending to the
highest point of the park, they were hypnotized by a knockout view over the
region. The park used to be a granite quarry, and a unique granite sundial can
be found here.
During luncheon at a leisure farm, President Wen gave his welcome speech. He thanked all the members for their participation and the volunteers for their hard work. He further wished everyone a happy Mother’s Day, voicing his hopes for Hakka families in Brazil to be united through this annual celebratory event.
